Terry Janke • Lead Pastor

Contact Terry

Terry has been the lead pastor of Whyte Ridge Baptist Church since 2009. Besides pastoral ministry in two other Baptist churches in NW Ontario he has served as Global Field Staff with Canadian Baptist Ministries in Bolivia for 7 years where he and his wife (Pat) taught Spiritual Formation.  Terry and Pat have a love for the Latin American culture and Pat is a High School Spanish teacher.

Terry has a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Winnipeg Bible College (Providence), a M.Div. from Acadia Divinity College in Nova Scotia, and a D. Min. from Carey Theological College in Vancouver. He and Pat enjoy travelling to other cultures, home renovations and yard work, as well as music and history. Terry is also a big fan of hockey.

Terry and Pat have three adult children; daughter Emily, married to Tory Walker (Winnipeg), and sons Joel (England) and Jonathan (Thunder Bay).

Doug Friesen • Associate Pastor – Relationally-based Discipleship

Doug came to Whyte Ridge in 1998 after graduation from Providence Seminary, Otterburne, MB.  He has recently completed a degree (Doctor of Ministry/Leadership in Community Spiritual Formation) from Denver Seminary, Littleton, CO.

Doug enjoys connecting with friends and family. He likes working out, playing racquetball/squash, golf, jogging, and biking. He is an avid traveler, and enjoys reading at Starbucks or Tim’s as well as playing games. He even likes to work on projects around his house when time permits.

Kevin Klassen • Associate Pastor – Worship & Care

Kevin started attending at Whyte Ridge in 1995 and has been on staff since 2006, currently serving as Associate Pastor of Worship and Care. In this role, he coordinates and provides leadership for worship gatherings, oversees care ministry and engages in counselling and visitation. Kevin received a Master of Arts in the counselling program at Providence Theological Seminary in 2002 and was recently ordained in the North American Baptist conference.

Kevin is married to Lynelle and they have two children – Josh and Beth. He loves spending time with his family, likes playing and writing music and also always enjoys a road trip!

Kevin Schular • Associate Pastor – Student Ministries

Kevin Schular came to Whyte Ridge Baptist Church in September 2015. He arrived from Alberta where he was Programs Coordinator for Hope Mission in Wetaskiwin, AB. He served as a youth pastor for close to 3 years at Calvary Baptist Church. He is a graduate of Liberty University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies and a minor in Kinesiology.

Kevin loves to be with his family (Jill (wife), Malachi, and Ava) and go on long walks to try out different playgrounds and parks. The slides and rope courses are the best part! He also has enjoyed being a high-school football coach in Alberta, so this year he is a part of the coaching staff at Grant Park high-school.

He loves sports and activities outside and yet has a good dose of love for solid board games. He is passionate about the Detroit Red Wings, and the Edmonton Eskimos…

Grace Elke • Director of Children’s Ministries

After retiring from a rewarding career as a middle years’ teacher in the public school system, Grace stepped into the position of Director of Children’s Ministries at Whyte Ridge in 2004. She is fully committed to the mission of Whyte Ridge’s children’s program which is ‘To come alongside families in creating a Christ-centered foundation for their children so that in God’s timing, each child will enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ.’

Grace’s studies at the Manitoba Teachers’ College, North American Baptist College, and the University of Manitoba equipped her for working in the education area of both the public school system as well as the church.

Grace is married to Willie and thoroughly enjoys their rural lifestyle on their farm at Oakbank.

Each day in her life’s journey Grace experience the truth in the words of Psalm 23:1“Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have all that I need.” (TLB)

Krista Wynne • Student Ministries Coordinator

Krista began attending Whyte Ridge Baptist Church shortly after becoming a believer in 1990. Krista went on to pursue post secondary education at both Briercrest Bible College and Providence College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. Krista has enjoyed the privilege of working with several different ministry organizations with a focus on youth and administration. In 2011, these two passions collided as she took on the role of Student Ministries Coordinator at WRBC.

Krista is married to her husband Terrance and they have two children, Emma and Jackson. Krista enjoys camping, reading, biking and a good cup of coffee!

Kathy Kornelsen • Administrative Assistant

Kathy came to Whyte Ridge in 1999 and has been on staff since 2004. Along with her family, she has lived in Saskatchewan, Alberta, Minnesota, and now Manitoba. She likes to quilt, spend time with her family, read books on her iPad, and go for early morning runs.

Kathy is married to Gerald and they have two married sons, Matt and Jon, both living in Manitoba.

Chris Schroeder • Communications Coordinator

Chris has been attending Whyte Ridge Baptist Church since 1994, together with his wife of over 20 years, Karen.  Since that time, both Chris and Karen have served in in various roles at the church, with Chris serving in the areas of Worship, Outreach, and as a recurring Board Member (current) and member of various task force teams.  Chris currently serves as Communications Coordinator for Whyte Ridge Baptist Church, supporting ministries through use of our website, announcements, social media and Church Management Systems.

Chris and Karen have a crew of four:  Micah, Abigail, Joel and Jordan.  Chris enjoys being a sports dad, loves spending time in his yard (and hammock!), and enjoys road trips with his family while on vacation.  Chris also presently serves in a full time role with the Christian relief, development, and advocacy organization, World Vision Canada, as a Church Advisor.
