Introducing Team Bolivia 2017

We are excited about the team that will be going to Bolivia this summer to represent Whyte Ridge Baptist Church and Winnipeg Somang Presbyterian Church. The focus of our time is divided between the Seminary in Cochabamba and a small village called Mizque.

At the Seminary we will be engaging in discipleship conversations with the students, staff and local pastors, sharing testimony / teaching, as well as helping with on-site maintenance.

In Mizque we will be working with some Seminary students and the local church in plastering homes for protection against the disease Chagas. There will be opportunities for ministry in the village as well. If you would like to know more, feel free to ask one of the team members!

We value the prayers of our church family as we prepare to share Christ’s love and truth.

Beth Klassen*, Ashley Linklater, Melanie Friesen*, Debbie Hopkins*, Pat Janke, Joni Lee*, Shelly Cumming*, Emmie Dryjski, Kathy Kornelsen*, Kevin Klassen*, Bogdan Dryjski, Barb Morris*, Steve Morris*, Terry Janke* (those with * beside their name are going to Bolivia).

Prayer Walk this Sunday at McGillivray Property

“When we depend upon organizations, we get what organizations can do; when we depend upon education,  we get what education can do; but when we depend upon prayer, we get what God can do.” A. C. Dixon

We have permission to gather at the Thomas Design parking lot from 10:30-11:00 and 12:45-1:15 for corporate prayer led by the pastors and church Board.

Adult Bible Study: Follow Me: A Call to Die. A Call to Live. Tuesdays, February 21-April 11; 7:00-9:00p.m. Location: 126 Sauve Cres.  Cost: $18 for book. WARNING: Participating in this study could lead to permanent life changing affects! If you choose to join, we will be seeking to answer the following: What did Jesus really mean when he said, “Follow Me”? Is it possible for people to say they believe in Jesus but not truly be born again? Is it possible for people to claim the have accepted Christ into their hearts yet not actually be Christians? Not only is it possible…it’s also highly probable! We will seek to understand that the call to follow Jesus is a summons to lose our lives even as we pursue Him. To live as a disciple of Christ is to be transformed from the inside out and personally empowered to make disciples from every nation, tribe, language and people. This is a 7 week study by pastor and author David Platt on Tuesday evenings that requires a serious personal study commitment. Come and join us and Follow Jesus! You will never be bored! You will find purpose! You will never lack joy! But it will cost you. It is a summons to lose your life! Reply to this email to register.

Canadian Scientific and Christian Affiliation presents: Is Religion Obsolete in a Scientific Age? Wednesday, February 22; 7:15p.m.; St. John’s College (Room 118), U of Manitoba  Modern scientific theories and methods provide us with powerful models and tools for understanding our world. Riding on the success of the modern sciences as their platform, some popular scientists today downplay the significance of religious questions and attempt to undermine religious truth claims. In their view, science has made religion obsolete. In contrast, the sciences provide us with accurate and effective but not comprehensive knowledge about reality. Science serves humanity best when it is practiced within a broader, holistic framework that includes other means of apprehending truth, including religious ones. (Canadian Scientific and Christian Affiliation is a non-profit Canadian fellowship of scientists and those interested in science, who want to understand how science should best interact with the life-giving Christian tradition. Part of our goal here at CSCA is to provide a helpful space for young believers who are struggling to reconcile Christian faith and science.)

Missionfest Manitoba 2017 – “Let The Children Come to Me: At Risk Children of the World”, February 3rd to 5th at Church of the Rock – Jesus has a special place in His heart for the innocent children of the world.  Even still, there are millions of children who are compromised by poverty, warfare, exploitation, inaccessibility to education and other issues which hinder them from experiencing the Father’s love. During Missionfest Manitoba 2017, we will hear from speakers from various parts of the world showing how they move from action to proclamation.  For details, visit www.missionfestmanitoba.org.

Consent to Release – As you are aware, from previous correspondence, the Steinbach Credit Union requires a list of all pledges for the Building program in order to proceed with our request for financing. Thank you to those of you who have returned their pledge consent form as requested.  For those of you who have not returned the consent form, please take a minute to complete the form (consent to release form) and return it to Gary Schellenberg’s mail folder. Alternatively, you may email Gary  with your permission and that will also be valid.  Thanks so much for doing this as this will hopefully expedite a favorable response from the Credit Union.

Whyte Ridge Baptist Church Weekly Update

Pastoral Appreciation – As those privileged to be shepherds of the flock here at Whyte Ridge Baptist Church we want to thank the church family for the incredible ‘Pastor Appreciation Sunday’ that you gave us on January 1st. We were both humbled and honoured by the various expressions of gratitude. As we reflected on it at our Staff meeting, we realized that none of us have ever experienced such a meaningful ‘thank you’ in ministry. The beautiful painting by Rosalie Olson combined with Pastor Alf Bell’s sage words are a keep-sake we will treasure as we remember that day for years to come. Thank you all for your love and respect. We praise God for giving us this season of ministry together with you all!

Sincerely, your Pastors: Kevin Klassen, Doug Friesen, Kevin Schular & Terry Janke

Building Project Prayer Requests:

Pray for the Building Committee as our Church enters into a formal construction agreement with Thomas Design Builders. This will involve decisions regarding sub trades and managing all aspects and costs of construction.

Pray for favour in the eyes of the City of Winnipeg Water & Waste as approval is sought for a site drainage plan. Also ask the Lord for good relations between our Church and Fort Whyte and Lafarge to discuss  an agreement for draining into Lake Muir. If approved this would allow us to lower costs considerably and maintain the current plan for a second floor and the current parking plan.

Pray for wisdom upon the Building Committee and Thomas Design as they fine tune/redesign the plans in an effort to meet the budget for the project.

As numbers firm up for the final costs, pray that we are able to lessen the gap in financing and that discussions with the Steinbach Credit Union are favourable.
