1,2,3,4,5 – Get on your knees and pray with me.

The following is an update from IBK Akin, Provincial Director of Child Evangelism Fellowship of Manitoba and Nunavut Ministries. IBK and his family attend WRBC.

An adventurous week 1 and week 2 of summer clubs…

1 team of 3 ladies, did not have a physical address to a club location so in following their GPS directions in one of those remote communities they got led to a muddy road and the car got stuck. Alas! there was also no phone signal, so they trekked back to the highway to get help and unfortunately missed the club for Day 1.

2 separate teams got a flat tire and that also affected getting to clubs. #cartroubles

3 teams had a stressful first few days: some from the things mentioned above and others were the enemy using just about anything to disturb team unity and communication so as to not let our summer workers be as effective.

4 salvation stories: Despite what feels like enemy attacks, there were 4 confirmed salvation (Hurray!) stories just from the Training Clubs week.

5 refugee immigrant siblings are serving with us from a family of 9 (Katotoka Family) That is impressive – 2 of the 5 are returnees. Being from the same family is tricky for support raising since they have to approach the same groups at church so CEF has launched a gofundme page just for this family. We are also looking out for matching donors for them.

I share this with you to ask that you pray for our 22 missionaries as they travel Manitoba teaching children about God’s love and grace. We are in a battle for souls and implore you to fight with us on your knees!

2018 Itinerary/Prayer Sheet: 2018-Itinerary-Prayer-Sheet

Update on Marijuana Legalization (Bill C-45): Passed Into Law

On June 21, 2018, Bill C-45 (Legalization of Marijuana) received Royal Ascent making Canada only the second nation in the world to legalize marijuana. (Uruguay is the only other country where marijuana is legal.)

The federal government has declared that October 17, 2018 will be the first day that marijuana may legally be sold, purchased and consumed.  They said that the delay is necessary to give the provinces time to prepare the framework for enforcing the new law, to set up production, and sales and distribution systems.

Here in Manitoba, the provincial government has set 19 as the legal age for consuming marijuana (one year older than the federal law) and has banned the home cultivation of marijuana (which the federal law allows).  The federal government has said that it would not forbid any province to make its own laws regarding the legalization of marijuana, but has also said that it would support the right of private citizens to challenge those laws in court.

MY Canada’s action and prayer points on how we as believers can navigate the passage of this new law include the following:

1. Contact provincial legislators, who are responsible for regulating marijuana
2. Contact municipal legislators regarding the location of sales outlets
3. Warn young people and parents
4. PRAY // Please join us in praying that regardless of the legalization in Canada the people would not buy it, so that it would not be profitable for the government to keep store fronts. Pray that our youth would not be affected with higher rates of drug use. May they see the dangers and not want to purchase it.
