We’re Hiring – Associate Pastor of Student Ministries

ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF STUDENT MINISTRIES

Whyte Ridge Baptist Church | Winnipeg, Manitoba

Whyte Ridge Baptist Church (WRBC) is seeking a spiritually mature, relationally gifted, and ministry-minded Associate Pastor of Student Ministries to provide leadership and pastoral oversight for our Youth and Young Adult Ministries.

Are you passionate about seeing students encounter Jesus, grow in their faith, and become followers of Christ?

We are looking for someone who loves Jesus, loves people, and has a genuine calling to walk alongside students as they navigate faith, relationships, school, work, and the transition into adulthood.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant, multicultural congregation of 350 to 400 individuals who desire to see people nurtured as followers of Jesus Christ through healthy relationships.

ABOUT WHYTE RIDGE BAPTIST CHURCH

Whyte Ridge Baptist Church is a growing and diverse Baptist congregation located in southwest Winnipeg. We are a community of people from a variety of backgrounds and generations who are seeking to follow Jesus together.

Our ministry is built around worshiping, connecting, and serving one another, with a strong emphasis on relationships, discipleship, and participation in the life of the church.

We value biblical teaching, authentic community, intergenerational relationships, and creating space for people to discover and use their gifts in ministry.

Our desire is not simply to have programs for students, but to develop and nurture followers of Jesus Christ.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Associate Pastor of Student Ministries will provide primary pastoral leadership for Youth Ministry while also providing leadership and oversight for Young Adult Ministry.

We are looking for a pastor who will not simply manage programs but will shepherd people.

The successful candidate will build meaningful relationships with students, parents, volunteers, and young adults while developing a ministry culture where students are known, loved, discipled, equipped, and encouraged to live out their faith.

This position will work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor, church staff, ministry leaders, parents, and volunteers to develop a healthy and sustainable vision for student ministry at WRBC.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship

  • Provide pastoral leadership, vision, and direction for Youth and Young Adult Ministries.
  • Develop environments where students can encounter Jesus and grow in their relationship with Him.
  • Teach and communicate God’s Word in ways that are biblically faithful, relevant, and engaging.
  • Develop intentional discipleship pathways for students and young adults.
  • Encourage students to discover their gifts and participate in the mission of the church.
  • Provide pastoral care and spiritual guidance to students, young adults, and their families.

Relationships & Community

  • Build authentic, trusting relationships with students and young adults.
  • Develop strong partnerships with parents and families.
  • Recruit, equip, encourage, and care for ministry volunteers.
  • Foster a ministry culture characterized by grace, belonging, accountability, and spiritual growth.
  • Be present in the everyday lives of students—not only at scheduled ministry events.

Ministry Development

  • Evaluate and strengthen existing youth and young adult ministries.
  • Develop new initiatives as opportunities and needs arise.
  • Plan and oversee ministry gatherings, retreats, special events, service opportunities, and outreach.
  • Encourage students to engage with the broader life and mission of WRBC.
  • Develop ministry strategies that are sustainable, relational, and discipleship-focused.

Leadership & Administration

  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor and church staff.
  • Develop ministry goals and budgets in cooperation with church leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, volunteers, staff, and the congregation.
  • Work collaboratively and with guidance from Director of Administrative and Communications Coordinator
  • Maintain appropriate records, schedules, planning, and ministry communication.
  • Ensure all student ministries operate in accordance with WRBC policies, including Plan to Protect requirements.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We believe the right candidate will be more than someone with ministry experience. We are looking for a person whose character, calling, and relational capacity align with the heart of this ministry.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A clear and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • A genuine calling to pastoral ministry, particularly ministry among students and young adults.
  • A strong commitment to the authority and truth of Scripture.
  • Theological convictions consistent with the beliefs of Whyte Ridge Baptist Church.
  • A heart for evangelism and discipleship.
  • Strong relational and communication skills.
  • The ability to connect naturally with teenagers, young adults, parents, and volunteers.
  • A servant-hearted approach to leadership.
  • Emotional and spiritual maturity.
  • The ability to recruit, equip, and encourage volunteers.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a ministry team.
  • A willingness to listen, learn, adapt, and grow.

Previous experience in youth, young adult, or pastoral ministry is strongly preferred. Formal theological or ministry training would be an asset.

More than anything, we are looking for a shepherd.

  • Someone who will know students by name.
  • Someone who will celebrate their victories, walk with them through their questions, pray with them in difficult seasons, and point them continually toward Jesus.
  • Someone who understands that healthy student ministry is not built primarily on great events, but on healthy relationships that create opportunities for discipleship.
  • Someone who can work with parents without competing with them, empower volunteers without simply handing ministry away, and lead students without losing sight of the larger church family.
  • Someone who sees young people not merely as the church of tomorrow, but as an important part of the church today.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AT WRBC

You will join a collaborative ministry team and a congregation that values relationships, biblical teaching, prayer, and shared ministry.

You will have the opportunity to help shape the next chapter of student ministry at WRBC while building on the strong relationships and ministry foundations already present.

We recognize that ministry is a calling, not simply a job. Our desire is to provide the support, encouragement, resources, and partnership necessary for the right person to flourish.
