Kids at the Ridge News: Week of June 21

Hi Friends,

Wow, the last days of school are here! I'm sure your kids are excited for summer.  Our family loves camping together and our favorite food to make while camping is campfire nachos!  They are a little bit messy (and sometimes a little burnt), but we love making memories together and talking and laughing around the firepit is one of my favorite memories.  I'd love to hear what you are up to this summer!

Summer Programming Update: July 5 to September 6

THIS SUNDAY is our LAST week of regular programming. Starting on Sunday, July 5th, we move to our Summer Programming Schedule.
Our leaders in our Children's Ministry dedicate so much of their time and energy over the ministry year - often volunteering every other week!  So we give our team a much needed break over the summer months so they can spend time with family and friends over the summer and attend church and it also gives us time and space to begin our preparation for Fall programming as well. Please thank our wonderful team for their dedication and care that they bring each week for your children. We LOVE serving our church community and we LOVE teaching God's word to your kids.

That being said, we also have some changes to our worship services over the summer. This is a great opportunity for your kids to experience "Big Church" with you this summer and we aim to make our services as family friendly as possible!

Nursery - Open (10:30am)
Preschool & Kindergarten class (age 3-6) open with an adjusted check in time - see info below!
Grades 1-4 - No programming July 5th to September 6th. Program resumes September 13th.
Grades 5-6 - The Wave - No Programming July 5th to September 6th. Program resumes September 13th.

Kids Craft Cart:
Weekly activity pages and coloring sheets with clip boards and crayons are available on the Kids Craft Carts in the auditorium located by the 2 main entrances.

For Nursery and Preschoolers:
Our Kids Check-in Team will open up 10 minutes prior to the service and the Nursery will also be open then. Preschoolers (age 3-6) will remain sitting with their parents for the start of the service for opening Worship time and the Kids Ministry Minute (children's message).

After the children's message, preschoolers are dismissed to their program. Parents must accompany their children and check them into the class.
Parents are welcome to and encouraged to check-in their preschoolers early before the service and get their child's name tag before the service starts so that when they are dismissed from the service, it speeds up drop off!

Kids Ministry Minute (Children's Message):
Before the sermon begins, Kids of all ages (parents too) will be invited to come forward to hear the Children's Message. Please sit in the first row of chairs or on the floor on the right side of the stage to hear the message. Camp WRBC is back this summer and our Kids Ministry Minute will often feature our friend Gilbert the Goose or activities that will be helping us learn our Big Idea for the morning! After the Kids Ministry Minute, preschoolers are dismissed with their parents to go check in for their class time and big kids can go sit with their parents.

Let me know if you have any questions!  I always love to hear from our parents :)  Blessings to you all this week! I'm praying for you!

DINNERTIME QUESTION: Words can do a lot of damage, but they can also do a lot of good. How can you use your words this week to encourage and build someone up?

Kids at the Ridge Weekly: June 7

Hi Friends,

The countdown to the end of school and summer holidays has started. I felt the energy and excitement in the room this past Sunday – it was joyful!

This Sunday is our Church Family Picnic and I want to personally invite you and your family to join us!! Stick around after church for a free bbq lunch and afterwards we will have a few activities and games in the field outside for kids and families.  Bring a football or lawn game to play and invite others to join. We hope this event is a great way for all our families at WRBC to build community and develop relationships.  Don’t forget to bring a lawn chair or blanket and some sunscreen and a hat – it might be a hot day!
Please make sure to keep an eye on your kids to make sure they stay out of the parking lot around cars – we want the kids to stay safe!

Hi Kids at the Ridge Friends!

Wow, we had another special Sunday service this week – honoring our mothers but also honoring all the Godly women who God has placed in our lives who love us.  Whether you are a mom or mothering others who aren’t your own, we thank you and we love you.  Whether you’ve lost your mom, had a hard relationship with your mom or struggle with loss or infertility, we love you too. We are praying for you. I hope you know that you are loved by our Heavenly Father and you are His child.  3 John 1:4 says ” I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”  Thank you for all you do to share your faith in Jesus with your kids and with those around you.

Hi Friends!

This Sunday our church celebrated all the amazing volunteers who serve in various ministries within the church. I might be biased, but I think the volunteer leaders we have in Children’s Ministry are the best of the best. They love kids and they love sharing God’s Word!    I hope you can find a moment to pray for them this week and pray for our ministry.

God is working through our leaders, and we see so many big and small moments each week where God uses us to pray for, encourage and guide kids towards Jesus.  It’s a beautiful thing!  Psalm 147:4 says “He counts the stars and calls them all by name.”  God knows each of us by name and we are special to Him. Pray for us as we prepare to teach your children.

This week in Children’s Ministry:

Instructions: Click on the link below to access the lesson videos playlists for Preschool and Elementary. This is a great way to engage with your kids!  Kids use the “Home Guide” worksheet at church as a way to respond to the lesson, so you can work on that page more or just use the discussion spot in the video and pause to discuss! I’ve also provided a dinnertime question for you to use this week!

Dinnertime Question: Take turns giving compliments – say something kind to each other! Ask: Who can you encourage today?

Lesson 10.3 – Paul and Silas in Prison

When most people escape from prison, they don’t stop to tell the guard about the good news of Jesus. But most people aren’t Paul and Silas! We heard the story of Paul and Silas sharing their faith during a dramatic moment in prison.

BIBLE BASIS: Acts 16:16-40

BIG IDEA: The Good News of Jesus is for all people, so we should always be ready to share why we believe.

WEEKLY VERSE: “Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have.” 1 Peter 3:15 (NIrV)

DINNERTIME QUESTION: Do you think it’s hard to tell others about Jesus? Why or why not?
Some kids can find it tough to share something personal with others. Remind them that the Holy Spirit is always there with them.

Kids at the Ridge Weekly: Celebrate May!

Hi Friends!

We have been so busy in our Children’s Ministry this last month. Our Easter unit (and the month of April too) went by in a whirlwind, but I pray that it was a meaningful time together with your families!  I know this is the time of year that many families are getting busy with spring sports starting up. But even if your child isn’t as busy with extracurriculars, the days are getting longer and I’m sure they are just as busy playing and enjoying those extra hours of sunlight!

This Sunday (May 3) is Volunteer Appreciation Sunday at church.  We will be doing some special things in the service to appreciate all our volunteers at WRBC, but I also want to celebrate and give a shout out to our amazing team of leaders who have committed to serve our kids and families in our Kids at the Ridge classes!   I encourage you to please say thank you to your child’s leaders this month. They go above and beyond as they dedicate their time to serve – often every other week!  I’d be happy to let you know the names of your child’s leaders, or pass along any notes – just reach out to me!

Remember how I said we’d have a classroom page coming up?   Change of plans… I tried to work through the best way to get out this info and I think a weekly email is going to be best instead – so no worrying about remembering a password or website page address!  I will be sharing a new video each week (for Preschool and Elementary) that goes along with what we learned on Sunday – Kids can watch the videos to reinforce the Bible Story they learned and I’ll also provide some dinnertime questions for you as well!

As followers of Jesus, we are recipients of the best news ever! We heard the story of Paul’s great escape over the city walls (in a basket!) and how that didn’t stop him from sharing the good news of Jesus!

BIBLE BASIS: Acts 9:19–31

BIG IDEA: The Holy Spirit gives us the power to boldly tell others about the good news of Jesus.

WEEKLY VERSE: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you. Then you will tell people about me.. from one end of the earth to the other.” Acts 1:8 (NIrV)

DINNERTIME QUESTION: Have you shared the Good News of Jesus with anyone? What did you say? If not, who is someone you would like to share it with?

March Update

Hi Friends!
I pray you are all doing well!  We are in the middle of March and spring is just around the corner… I promise!  I’m sure you’re already starting to make plans and dreaming of summer.  One of the things I wanted to remind you this month is that our Kids at the Ridge VBS Summer Camp Registration is OPEN!   In the few days since our registration has opened (March 15), we have over 20 kids registered!!!  This is a record for sure and word of mouth is spreading.  So if you were thinking about registering, please don’t delay!

The second part of this VBS reminder is that we are looking for some volunteers!  If you are able to help in any way, please let me know. From decorations, curriculum preparation, set up and clean up, greeting, check-in, small groups, stations (and more!), we’d love your help to make this week a success!

February Update

Hi Friends!
